Floral design is fleeting by nature. Beauty that blooms, then fades. But behind the scenes, the industry often leaves a longer trail: plastics, imports, waste. As conservationists at heart, we carry this tension daily. We love flowers deeply, and we love the earth that grows them even more.

At Miller Family Florals, we do our best to bridge that gap. My family grows many of our blooms and we source locally whenever we can. We compost clippings, reuse mechanics, and say no to floral foam. We avoid waste where possible and design with intention - choosing materials that will return gently to the soil or live on in another form. We save and repurpose all types of vessels in hopes of reusing them time and time again.

Foraging plays a meaningful role in our work - but always with care, knowledge, and gratitude. We forage thoughtfully, never excessively, often pruning in ways that encourage new growth rather than harm. Oftentimes we forage from gardens we planted, from seeds we sowed for this very purpose. We have all spent a lifetime learning how plants grow, how they respond, and how to harvest without leaving a trace. When we gather from the land, it’s to honor it. To celebrate local beauty, especially native plants that reflect the rhythm of this place.

No system is perfect, and we won’t pretend this work is always sustainable. But we believe in doing better - imperfectly, persistently. In creating beauty that doesn’t cost the earth too dearly. And in honoring the seasons, the soil, and the living world that makes this art possible.
